Hislop will coordinate early and ongoing stakeholder and tribal engagement for Invenergy's first offshore wind project on the West Coast.
CHICAGO, IL (May 9, 2023) – Invenergy California Offshore, a subsidiary of American-led Invenergy, the leading privately-held developer, owner and operator of sustainable energy solutions, today announced Kristen Hislop as Senior Manager, Environmental Compliance & Strategy. In her role, Hislop will collaborate with environmental organizations, local community members, fisheries, state and federal decision makers, and tribal representatives to advance the responsible development, construction and operation of offshore wind generation in California.
In December 2022, Invenergy was named provisional winner of approximately 80,000 acres for offshore wind development by the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). The winning bid of $145.3 million secured lease OCS-P 0565, making Invenergy the only American-owned provisional winner. The lease doubled Invenergy’s offshore wind portfolio, expanding its footprint from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast, and marked the company’s first investment in a floating offshore wind lease.
Hislop joins Invenergy from the Environmental Defense Center where she served as Senior Director of the organization’s Marine Program and focused her work on coastal and marine conservation, and the protection of endangered wildlife, ocean water quality, and the public’s ability to enjoy the California coastline. She previously worked as a Program Analyst at the California Coastal Commission and Resource Protection Specialist at the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.
“Kristen has spent her entire career working to protect California’s marine ecosystem and will utilize these unique skills to help Invenergy’s offshore wind team build a responsible and sustainable energy solution for the Golden State,” said Erin Lieberman, Executive Vice President, Environmental Compliance & Strategy at Invenergy. “As we continue to prioritize early and ongoing community engagement for our projects, Kristen’s vast knowledge of the California coast and her experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders, fisheries and tribal communities will be a tremendous asset to our team.”
A lifelong Californian, Hislop holds both a B.A. in Geography and a Master's in Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
“Invenergy has long been a leader in renewable energy innovation, and I am delighted to join this seasoned team to create an offshore wind project that benefits California and its coastal communities by forwarding our state’s clean energy goals,” said Hislop.
