Announcement paves the way for offshore wind development in California
California – Invenergy, a leading privately held developer, owner, and operator of sustainable energy solutions and one of five offshore wind leaseholders off the coast of California, applauds the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for their final need determination to procure of up to 7.6 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2035.
“We applaud the CPUC's decision, which provides greater clarity on timing and scale for offshore wind procurement and puts California on the path to becoming a global leader in floating offshore wind. This is an exciting moment to recognize the Newsom Administration's leadership on offshore wind and celebrate California’s commitment to addressing climate change and ensuring energy reliability,” said Daniel Runyan, Senior Vice President, Head of Offshore Wind Development at Invenergy. “We look forward to ongoing collaboration with Tribes, the community, policymakers, and other stakeholders as we advance the Even Keel Wind project.”
Last year, Invenergy was named the official leaseholder of OCS-P 0565, an 80,000-acre parcel of seabed for offshore wind development by the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) off the Central Coast of California. The project, Even Keel Wind, is in the early stages of development and builds on Invenergy’s proven track record of Tribal and stakeholder engagement, clean energy development, American innovation, and impactful community investment.
